About Me

My name is Mia Masui and I’m a pianist and an educator native of Osaka, Japan. I am currently based in Stratford, Ontario. I have started taking music lessons at age of three through the Yamaha education system and have been surrounded by music and piano ever since.

I have a Bachelor of Music from Mount Allison University in Sackville, New Brunswick and a Master of Music from Western University in London, Ontario.

My interest in piano is not only performing pieces by great composers but also having a healthy approach to the instrument both physically and mentally. I received a full scholarship to attend Dr.Lister-Sink Intensive Injury Prevention Program in the US to learn prevention of performance injuries from piano playing.

I am looking forward to share the joy of music with students, teaching them a proper approach to the instrument to prevent injuries and build a healthy relationship with music!

Piano Lessons

Lesson fee starts from $25/30min.
First 3 lessons only cost $55 (30min lessons each)!

Theory/Solfege Lessons

Offering basic theory lesson to RCM exam prep lessons.
Solfege lessons are available to incorporate with piano lessons.

Teaching Philosophy

3 principals in my lessons.

We don’t all have to become a virtuoso pianist! However, having a proper piano playing technique is the key to being fluent in piano playing.

In my lessons, technique books are not the only resource to improve the technique! I always focus on hand/finger posture, wrist/arm movements and whole body movement in the regular repertoires to improve the techniques.

Having a good understanding in music theory is equal to being able to read when you study new language. If you learn theory properly, you will be able to play any type of music in the future, even after you stop taking lessons for years.

Although lots of kids don’t like theory, I try to make music theory activities as fun as possible! Most of my students enjoy learning music theory like conquering a new area in a video game!

I believe having a great singing skill/musicality is crucial in piano playing. Musicality is almost like as cultivating a sense of mixing colours to create a new colour in painting. My main method of musicality training is singing! I believe singing will cultivate the sense of musical direction, phrasing and changing the colour of your piano sound. Also, singing will train your ears which is crucial part in music.
